Everything Taco For Taco Day

I’d put traditional Mexican street tacos higher on my own list, but they’re definitely hard to find in Nebraska!

The Monthly Spew

Tacos… ah, tacos.  Just saying it makes me hungry and happy all at the same time.  Is there anything better than a taco?  You’re thinking about it now aren’t you?  And you’re having trouble, huh?  Everyone loves a good taco, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who does not.  And because of our love of tacos, October 4th has been named National Taco Day.  So let’s go through a little run down about everything taco.

Adventures in Traegering: Smoked Thai Buffalo Wings

JR's Wild West

There’s almost nothing better on this Earth than a good buffalo wing.  And there’s about one million different ways to make them.  But I am kind of a snob when it comes to wings.  BBQ sauce on a wing… not a wing.  Honey lemon?  Get out of town.  In my book there’s got to be some kind of hot sauce involved to make a good, honest-to-god buffalo wing.  Here’s the low down on the best wings I’ve made to date.

August Babies – HP Lovecraft & the Cthulhu Mythos

A nice summary of HP Lovecraft. For anyone who hasn’t figured out what Cthulhu’s Corner is all about.

Jeanine O'Loughlin

August did not have any compelling holidays to celebrate, so this month I’ll be posting about authors who were born in the month of August.

H._P._Lovecraft,_June_1934

HP Lovecraft 8/20/1890 – 3/15/1937

Howard Phllips Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island and is best known for his short horror stories including “Call of Cthulhu” which has since sparked a great many tales, games and other  media around the mythos. Howard was primarily raised by his mother and grandfather after his father was confined to a mental institution when Howard was only 3 years old. His mother was a very overbearing maternal figure and kept him home from school due to illness which may believe were psychosomatic. He did not begin to attend school full-time until the age of 13.

Howard’s grandfather was a businessman who enjoyed storytelling. It’s thought that this was the biggest influence in Howard’s literary pursuits. Many felt that…

Imperial Flag Continues to Fly over Coruscant Decades After The Emporer’s Death

The Monthly Spew

Don’t tread on me. Even after the hero Luke Skywalker did his part in ending the Galactic Civil War and Princess Leia Organa-Solo helped establish the New Republic, some Deep Core Worlds, most prominently, Coruscant, are holding on to the darker chapters of the Galaxy’s history. Many galactic citizens are unhappy that the flag of the fallen Galactic Empire, a symbol of oppression, still flies at the capital in Coruscant.

New Fallout Game Feature Aims to Keep you on the Side of the Angels

The Monthly Spew

To survive in this hellscape you might have to do something bad. To survive in this hellscape you might have to do something bad.

LAS VEGAS, NV — One of the more memorable events in Fallout 3 was when your character is given the decision to nuke an entire city of post-apocalyptic wasteland survivors.  Everyone chose to nuke the city.  Some people chose to go into the city and mercilessly slaughter everyone so that they could steal all of their precious bottle caps and rusty 9mm pistols.  Well, it seems that in Fallout 4, decisions such as that are going to have real-world impact.

Nebraska Governor Seeks to Revive Death Penalty Through Any Means Necessary

The Monthly Spew

We didn't feel like finding another picture of Pete Ricketts. Can you blame us? We didn’t feel like finding another picture of Pete Ricketts. Can you blame us?

After a landmark vote to override the governor’s veto, Nebraska became the 19th state to abolish the death penalty. But abject failure isn’t about to keep Ricketts from pursuing his lifelong dream of the state-sanctioned murdering of convicted criminals.

“My hope is that we can, as a state, not lose sight of the value of the death penalty as a tool of public safety,” Ricketts said in a press release. “And it is my intention to not only work to bring this important tool back to our beautiful state, but to also restore the public’s trust in an American institution.”

Dadbod Craze a Myth: Creation of a Middle-Aged Man Undergoing Mid-Life Crisis

The Monthly Spew

“If I can convince them to go see my movies, then surely I can convince them flabby is the new fit!”

CHICAGO, IL — Recently the internet has been inundated with articles praising the ‘dadbod’.  All of this praise, it seems, is actually totally bullshit, having been fomented entirely by one middle-aged man and his sad, schlubby friends.  Their goal?  To convince themselves and the world that they weren’t just lazy and that covering their abdominals with a few inches of fat actually made them more attractive.
